Instagram Update 10/7/16 & Why I like Instagram

I like Instagram. When you post on facebook, a lot of times it feels like you are broadcasting it to the world, which I don't like. Maybe it's just because I don't have a ton of followers, but I like Instagram because it feels more intimate, and you get to share your content with people who really care, and people you care a lot about. For some reason it's easier to interact on Instagram than facebook (I don't know why). It's easier to find content you would like to see, to browse in subjects you are interested in and it's an easier way to connect with people who like the stuff you like. I like that there's an "etiquette" where people expect you to post, at most, once a day (not everybody follows this, but it's harder for somebody to fill up your feed like they do in Facebook).

It's got it's downfalls too. Sometimes random people will like, follow, or comment on your stuff just in hopes that you will follow them. For a sincere person like me, that really bothers me, even if you have a good cause or product. It's harder to send private messages to people (in my opinion). You can't "unfollow but remain friends" (sorry, this is my favorite feature in Facebook!). I don't like that you can't really use links (you can only put a website link in your profile description).

The thing I still don't get is Snapchat. I hate that everything disappears unless you remember to take a screenshot (it's just another step, you know?). I love keeping stuff, almost every picture I take is precious to me. It is fun, and I like being able to put captions directly on pictures, and it makes texting way more fun, you feel more like you're actually there with the person rather than just staring at their words on a screen.

I don't know about you, but after I have a baby it takes a while before I feel comfortable looking in the mirror again, it takes a while before I feel comfortable with the new way I look. It's so important to feel pretty and be confident in your own skin. More important than "do others think I look pretty?" I've found, is "do I think I look pretty?" It's such a wonderful gift you can give yourself, deciding that you feel pretty. I feel pretty when I do my hair. I see my outward appearance as a way to add beauty to the world. I've thought before that, if only I had more talent, more resources, more physical gifts, I would look and feel more beautiful. It's not true. You can create something beautiful to look at with almost no resources, and the decision to feel beautiful costs nothing at all. The reason it's easy to create beauty and decide that you are beautiful is because human beings are innately beautiful as children of God. When I stop making beauty about me, and instead see it as a way to thank God for the divine gift of my body, I am more at peace with who I am and what I've been given. Decide to feel pretty today, even if you spend the whole day in sweats! It's a great gift to yourself, and it's true!! #beauty #divinegift #childofgod #identity #GodDontMakeNoTrash #pretty
