Baby Frank is here!

Pain comes in so many forms. At the end of most of my pregnancies I am usually consumed with emotional pain, a sort-of antepartum depression so to speak, that leaves me begging to be delivered. This pregnancy my main source of pain the last month or so was physical. My baby was sitting on my sciatic nerve, and I could barely walk the pain was so great. With Ephraim's pregnancy I felt the Lord had mercy on me and released me from my pain early. He was born at 38 weeks, 5 days. This time I again pleaded for such a blessing, but none came. I don't know if God has specific days he wants each of his children to enter the world, but this time, I chose it.

Having been induced twice before, and having had somewhat scary deliveries (I have a history of placental abruption), I elected to be induced when I was 39 weeks. And so our little Frank came into the world on May 18th.

We couldn't be happier with our precious, beautiful baby boy. It's been quite the adjustment with four kids and I'm busier than I ever have been (it's taken me nearly two weeks just to write these few thoughts down!).

Yesterday evening, the kids were playing out in the backyard and Ben and I were enjoying the weather while we sat together watching them. Ben went in to put them to bed and I was out there for a few rare quiet minutes while I held a sleeping baby. The wind was blowing warm summer air and I watched the leaves of our giant oak tree sway back and forth. I couldn't help but be grateful. Our life is wild right now. There's no sleep and tantrums, lots of messes and a mounting to-do list. But our life is full of the divine work of family, of serving each other and growing together. It's the greatest thing to lose sleep over, the best thing you can invest your time and energy into. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

  1. Congratulations! I love hearing your thoughts. I think I'm happiest with a new baby when I remember that the only important thing is to love and teach these sweet children. Baby Frank is very blessed to be born into such a great family who loves and cherishes him.

  2. Oh Ashley- he looks like such a sweet baby! You guys did a great job! Adjusting to 4 kids can be challenging I'm sure, but if anyone can do it, you can! You are such a wonderful mom and those kiddos are so lucky to have you. :)
