Flake Family Calendar

2012 is going to be a busy year in my Flake Family.

Let me give you a glimpse of what the calendar looks like:
March- Whitney gets married
April- Heather has baby #4
May- Haley has baby #1
June- Sarah has baby #5, Derek gets home from his mission
July- Joel Flake Family Reunion, Ashley has baby #2

That's right! Baby #2 is on it's way!! We are VERY excited to be having our second baby.

Here is everything you wanted to know:

-I am 12 weeks along
-I am due July 22, 2012, my 24th birthday!
-Our babies will be 20 months apart
-Yes, it was planned
-I have not been as sick, which has been a major blessing. Last time with Cheyenne, I was nauseous all day everyday, and threw up all the time. Although it got better over time, I still woke up nauseous even in my 9th month. This time has been a breeze in comparison. I wake up a little nauseous every morning, have thrown up just a few times, and am always "cured" by half a Zofran if I need one. WHAT a blessing. Everyday I'm thankful for it. And everyday I'm a believer that not every pregnancy is the same.
-I would like a boy, Ben says he wants a girl so we don't have to buy any new clothes and save some money.
-We will be giving the baby a "D" name (that's right, ABCD... you guessed it.... ask Ben about that)

On having them 20 months apart...
This is probably a little personal, but it might help you understand us a little better. When we were trying with Cheyenne, it took us 8 months to get pregnant. I know that's nothing compared to some people who try for years like some of my sisters. This second time around I was already baby-hungry by about 6 months. My baby was already crawling, squirming out of my arms, and I didn't have a "baby" to hold anymore. Ben wisely did not give in to my wild ideas and we waited until she was 9 months to start trying. We were both fully prepared to wait another 8 months if we had to, but apparently the Lord had other ideas. We only had to try 3 months this time around, which of course was a huge blessing from the Lord. One thing I did this time around was charting my temperature. We got pregnant the first month I started charting, but Ben thinks it's just a coincidence. But I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, which explains charting and a lot of other things, and helps you feel really empowered.

I was a little worried about being sick and still having a "baby" to take care of, but a couple of things have made this pregnancy not so bad. First, Cheyenne can walk and has been since about 10 months so I don't have to carry her around everywhere. Second, Ben has been a huge help. He gets up with Cheyenne in the morning, feeds her, changes her diaper, and plays with her while I sleep in til about 7:30, and then he goes to work. Third, of course I haven't been as sick, and having someone to take care of forces you to get up and push through the nausea, which I think has really helped.

  4. So exciting! Thanks for sharing your story. It took about 10 months for us to get number 2 on the way. Babies are such a blessing and you learn so much about the Lord and yourself as you embark on the journey of motherhood. I'm so happy for you Ash!

  6. Congrats! We are SO excited for you. And a little jealous you have a plan for naming your kids. :) We're 8 weeks away and starting to get worried a little since we don't what we're going to name her at all! So glad that your pregnancy is easier; what a blessing. I sure hope my third is like my first, or at least easier than this one has been. Anyway, congrats again!
